Teresa Mae Erbacher was born February 26, 1957, in San Diego and raised in Clairemont with a younger brother and sister. Artistic from her youth, she enjoyed
beadwork, pottery, weaving baskets and embroidery. She was poetic, an avid reader and loved to live life. Some years after her four children were full-grown, Terry attained an associate’s degree and worked many years for City College as an academic program administrator. Because of her natural ability of acute characterization and information processing, she was invaluable to the students she advised. Her goal was to get them on the right degree path instead of taking a bunch of random classes they
didn’t need.
Terry moved into Kearney Lodge around 2015. For the first year I rarely saw her, later to find out one of her favorite hobbies was to curl up with her cats and a book. She had a great love for her Maine Coon cats, enjoyed retreats at the hot springs and riding motorcycles. We were neighbors who became dear friends and a bonus mom, checking we were okay--but this was the kind of person Terry was--a kindred soul to everyone that knew her. She was a good listener and wise. She knew how to rejoice as well as mourn with you. She had a gift of making you feel valued and interesting. She always gave preference to others, even the shirt off her back. She was intelligent with instructive common sense and witty too! She had a good sense of humor, able to laugh at herself and be vulnerable at times, which made her all the more endearing. Terry was an unassuming person who appreciated everyone.
After three years of battling a virulent cancer, Terry passed away September 21st surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by three children, her siblings and an aunt and uncle. Her absence has left echoes of her lovingkindness to all those who knew her best.
